In 1775, the American Revolution was underway and the British hold on Canada was tenuous.  British troops were thinly scattered through Canada, mainly at Quebec City, Montreal and smaller garrisons in the Great Lakes.  General George Washington, newly inaugurated in July 1775, approved a two-pronged invasion of Canada designed to deal a serious blow to the British and further the American cause by bringing the Canadian territories into rebellion. Our next A.T. community hike will take place on October 6th – we will be tackling Little Bigelow, the long, lower peak at the east end of the Bigelow Range.  This hike is approximately 6.2 miles in length and should take from 5 to 6 hours start to finish.  It features spectacular views of the Bigelow Range, Flagstaff Lake and Maine’s High Peaks.  Maine Trail Finder rates it as a Moderate to Advanced hike.
