SUMMARY:Sugarloaf Mountain Hike
DESCRIPTION:Been awhile since we had this one! The next MATLT Community Hike will be on Saturday\, July 27th up Sugarloaf Mountain! This 5.3 mile round trip hike will take you to the top of Maine’s second highest free standing mountain\, the one with the big ski area on the slopes. Mere words cannot describe to you how steep this hike is – it’s only 2.65 mile up but it is very\, very steep. DESCRIPTION:The next Maine Appalachian Trail Land Trust community hike will be on Sunday\, September 9th at 10am\, to the Crockers in Maine’s High Peaks region.  From Caribou Valley Road in Carrabassett Valley\, this hike will be 3.6 miles up to first South Crocker and then (north) Crocker Mountain\, then back down for a total distance of 7.2 miles.  This is a strenuous hike on one of the great stretches of the A.T. in Maine! \nYou must RSVP (in case of schedule changes or weather issues) below or by contacting us at info@matlt.org or by calling 207-808-2073.  Carpooling will be arranged a few days before the hike.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED Crocker and South Crocker Mountain Hike
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday’s Next Century Hike will be up the Crockers in Maine’s High Peaks\, via the Appalachian Trail from Caribou Valley Road.  Crocker Mountain’s two 4000-foot peaks are the 4th and 11th highest mountains in Maine\, We are planning to spot one or more cars at the A.T. crossing of Route 27 where it leads north to the Bigelow Range\, and start from Caribou Valley Road which is about 2 miles south of the A.T. crossing.  We’ll meet at the A.T. parking area (left side of Route 27) shown below at 9am on this coming Saturday\, June 17th\, at 9am. \n \nFrom the A.T. crossing of Caribou Valley Road\, we’ll head up to South Crocker (2.1 miles) and over to Crocker Mountain (3.1 miles) before descending the remaining 3.1 miles to the car spot on Rt. 27.  This hike should take approximately 6 hours depending on the weather conditions.  This is a very strenuous hike with a total distance of 8.3 miles over rough terrain with elevation gain. \nYou must RSVP to come along on this hike so we can contact you if the itinerary changes\, and to coordinate ride sharing and car spotting.  To RSVP\, please use the form below\, contact us through social media\, or contact us directly (info@matlt.org or 207-808-2073).  This should be a good one!

SUMMARY:Spaulding Option Hike
DESCRIPTION:Our next Maine Hikes trip will be up the ridge from Caribou Valley Road to Spaulding Mountain (4\,009 feet).  We’re calling this an option hike because in addition to the basic\, 4.5 mile hike up to Spaulding Mountain\, there will be two additional destinations to choose from: Sugarloaf Mountain\, a 0.6 mile side trip from the A.T.; and Mount Abraham\, which will require spending a night at the Spaulding campsite and then taking the Fire Warden’s Trail 5.9 miles down to Rapid Stream Road. \nThe Spaulding Mountain hike is 4.5 miles each way for a total distance of 9 miles\, and should take a total of about 6 to 6.5 hours to complete.  Most of the hike follows the long ridge between Sugarloaf and Spaulding.  Due to the length and some steep sections\, this is a strenuous hike. \nFor those of you who want to climb Sugarloaf\, a trip leader will take you on the Sugarloaf side trail while the main group continues to Spaulding.  The Sugarloaf group will catch up to the main group at some point along the ridge.  For those of you who want to take the Fire Warden’s Trail to Mount Abraham and down to Rapid Stream Road\, please contact as as soon as you can.  We are going to make arrangements to help spot cars for the overnight group. \nYou must RSVP for this hike below!  Please email us at info@matlt.org or call 207-808-2073 if you have any questions!
