SUMMARY:Table Rock Hike
DESCRIPTION:Update – this hike will now be on Saturday 1/25! \nOur Winter Community Hikes program is gearing up for the winter season with a warmup hike to Table Rock in Grafton Notch.  We will meet in the parking area in Grafton Notch at 10am on Saturday\, January 25th.  We’ll eat lunch up top if conditions allow. \nTable Rock overlooks Route 26 as it winds north through Grafton Notch in Newry\, Maine.  While the terrain is fairly moderate\, it is steep near the end and the rock itself is exposed.  The views are spectacular if the weather is nice. We will be taking the blue-blazed official Appalachian Trail side trail from the A.T.\, which is an up-and-back 2.6 mile hike.  If you are planning to come along\, please review the links below. \nGrafton Notch State Park – this Maine State Parks page has information and maps about the area\, including a description of the trails. \nMaine Trail Finder – Another trails description. \nThe trailhead is very easy to find and there is plenty of parking in the A.T. lot directly on Route 26.   We will meet in this parking lot.  Remember\, you must RSVP for this hike by using this events page or contacting us (info@matlt.org or 207-808-2073).  Snowshoes and/or ice traction aids will probably be required.

SUMMARY:West Baldpate
DESCRIPTION:The next Maine A.T. Land Trust community hike will be up to West Baldpate in Grafton Notch on the A.T.!  We will meet in the parking area below Old Speck in Grafton Notch State Park at 9am this Saturday January 19th.  This is an up-and-back hike on the Appalachian Trail\, with a distance each way of 3.1 miles (6.2 miles total).  The terrain is rugged and this is a strenuous hike that is a bit less strenuous than others in the area due to the shorter distance.  We will not be attempting to climb East Baldpate which is much more challenging in the winter.  If the trail has been broken out and we make good time\, we will stop at Table Rock on the return hike. \nSnowshoes and traction aids (Microspikes\, Hillsounds\, etc.) are required for this hike.  Higher portions of the A.T. on West Baldpate tend to be icy.  You must RSVP by using the form below or contacting us.  The hike will be weather dependent – there is a snowstorm in the forecast which we are monitoring\, but it is several days out. \nHere’s some information on the trail and Grafton Notch State Park: \nMaine Trail Finder \nGrafton Notch State Park \nSign up and come on out!
